Mexico is a land like no other that makes it easy to claim that it truly offers something for everyone. It is here that you will find the UNESCO World Heritage site Chichen Itza. Offering a historic glimpse of the ancient Maya civilization dating back to 600 AD, the ruins were recently selected as one of the new seven wonders of the modern world. Coupled with its modern city skylines in Cancun and Mexico City, to picturesque colonial towns like San Miguel de Allende, Mexico is a sensational location for your destination wedding.
Mexico is home to many resorts and a lucky few have received the coveted five diamond rating from AAA. Our partner properties that appear on this page with us, are those properties that we feel exceed even our most rigorous standards for outstanding quality and an unrivaled dedication to impeccable service. What led us to invite these properties to join us and perhaps of greatest importance, is the fact that they do not rely on the cookie cutter, assembly line wedding that many resorts are famous for where everything is promised and in some cases very little is delivered.

You will notice that we are not partnered with a regional planner in Mexico. The reason behind this decision, is that our partner properties have hired some of the best, if not the best wedding planning talent in the region, and you can be confident that no matter which property you select, the onsite wedding coordinator and your local Extraordinary Destination Weddings planner will work as a team to provide you with the wedding you’ve always dreamed of. Whether your wedding vision has you entering the ceremony site on horseback or enjoying a “Callejoneada” where you and everyone attending the wedding walk through the historic streets of Mexico together, it will be our pleasure to help make all of your wedding wishes a reality.
Please contact your local Extraordinary Destination Weddings Planner to learn more about having the wedding of your dreams in beautiful Mexico where the people are welcoming and the sun almost always shines brightly.
Best reasons to get married in Mexico
Mexico is one area that offers a wide range of property styles and pricing. From extremely affordable all-inclusive resorts to some of the most opulent properties in the world, there’s no question that the perfect property is right here to meet your destination wedding needs.
A destination wedding should provide you and your guests with lots of things to do along with the wedding of course. Mexico is one area where activities are plentiful and the attractions appeal to a wide audience, both young and old.
With multiple UNESCO world heritage sites to visit, even the most avid history buff will be impressed.
The Margarita was first created in Mexico or so the legend goes. What could be better than sipping a margarita, listening to a great Mariachi band, and looking out on the azure blue sea?
If you love jewelry, you will love Mexico. Native turquoise, opals, fire agate, and silver along with other stunning gemstones, are plentiful here.
The Mexican people are some of the best hosts in the world. More times than not, you will hear the words “de nada” which when translated, means it’s nothing. Hospitality, generosity, and friendship all abound in this very warm and welcoming nation.
Best times to get married in Mexico
Mexico is a very large country, so the party line answer is that it really depends upon what kind of weather you enjoy and where your preferred destination is located. If you’re hoping to avoid rain, you will probably want to stay away in August and September which coincides with the rainy season and also the most active hurricane season period which can affect both the east and west coast of Mexico. Then again, if you are attempting to plan a wedding with a smaller budget, you can get some great pricing during these periods also. Just be sure to invest in travel insurance if you decide to select these dates as Mother Nature is always unpredictable.
Places like Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende are located in the high plains which means that these places will be warm during the day and cool at night. Southern coastal towns like Mazatlan and Tulum will be warm most of the year and especially so during the summer months. If you select a location on the Baja peninsula, it will be hot as this area is in fact a desert that just happens to be next to the ocean.
In terms of a high and low season, high season is typically defined as anytime between Christmas and May 1st. Mid peak periods typically occur from May through August 1st and November through most of December. Low season in coastal areas aligns with that period when hurricanes are most likely to form from August through October.
Ways to enhance your wedding experience in Mexico
Visit the ancient Maya capital of Chichen Itza a beautifully preserved example of pre-hispanic Mayan culture. Best time to visit is March 21st on the vernal equinox when a natural phenomenon occurs allowing you to see the shadow of the great serpent Kukulcan descend down the stairs of the pyramid named for him.
Come to one of the many cenotes where you can cave dive and rappel into the great caverns of the underground rivers in the Mayan Riviera.
Ecotourists will love becoming one with nature at Xel-Ha or Xcaret, both exquisite ecotourism parks near Playa del Carmen or visit Celestun, the natural habitat for hundreds of pink flamingoes.
Dive the second largest coral reef in the world not far off the Mayan Riviera shores where you will see an abundance of parrot fish, angel fish, manta rays, and even the occasional shark. With the coral reef so close to shore, snorkeling offers another great opportunity to take part in this great underwater sanctuary.
Play a round of golf at courses designed by the likes of Robert Trent Jones, Jack Nicklaus, and Greg Norman.
Shop, shop, shop ‘til you drop in all the great cities and tourist locations.
Zip line over the canopy at a world class zip line circuit.
Parasail, jet ski, or swim in some of the clearest waters in the world.
Enjoy a jungle adventure via ATV, on horseback, or on a guided tour.
Catch your dinner on a deep sea fishing expedition where there’s a good chance you’ll land a barracuda, tuna, snapper, grouper or wahoo.
If you prefer to commune with nature, swim with the dolphins.
Or simply spend the day laying on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, sipping a tropical confection and reading a great book.

Las Ventanas al Paraíso ~ Los Cabos

A favorite, and magnificent, venue is The Plaza, a terrace perched above the beach featuring expansive, inspiring panoramas of sea and coastline. Ceremonies are often held at sunset when a striking display of nature – a radiant orange sun giving way to a sky emblazoned with brilliant colors – becomes the backdrop to the gala affair. Smaller weddings, particularly private ceremonies for two or vow renewals, usually take place on the white-sand beach.
Receptions and wedding parties are usually held in the Private Event Room that opens completely to a beautiful inlaid-pebble terrace with beautiful sea views – creating the option of either an indoor or indoor-outdoor event under the star-studded Baja sky. For rehearsal dinners and other events, a favorite location is the enchanting La Cava, a private wine cellar where you will dine among thousands of bottles of the world’s finest vintages. A traditional Mexican beach barbecue, with sizzling aromatic grills right on the sand, is another popular option. The bride-to-be and her wedding party often arrive early to enjoy pre-wedding festivities focusing on special treatments and therapies at The Spa (including treatments specially created to prepare the bride for her big day).
When only the finest will do, Las Ventanas al Paraíso is the place for you.
Hotel Matilda ~ San Miguel de Allende
Located in the central highlands of Mexico about 170 miles from Mexico City, Hotel Matilda, a cutting edge, boutique hotel with a focus on contemporary art, is the perfect juxtaposition to its spectacular colonial setting. Recently opened in San Miguel de Allende a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its spectacular Spanish colonial architecture and Old World ambience remaining virtually unchanged from centuries ago, Hotel Matilda has recently been selected by Conde Naste Traveler as a 2011 Hot Spot. Couple that with San Miguel de Allende chosen by Travel + Leisure for its “World’s Best” awards for 2010, naming San Miguel the #1 city in Latin America and the #4 city in the world, Hotel Matilda is arguably one of the most prestigious locations around the world for your destination wedding, renewal of vows, or honeymoon.
You can be married in San Miguel’s iconic church in the main square, the Parroquia, or have an intimate, candle-lit ceremony in one of the many Spanish-era chapels. On the wedding’s eve, a traditional “Callejoneada” can be arranged where the bride and groom and everyone attending the wedding walk through the historic streets of San Miguel, accompanied by musicians playing folkloric music and attired in authentic costumes, while punch, tequila or wine (packed on the back of a donkey) is served. Following such traditional experiences, your reception and party at Hotel Matilda – and only at Hotel Matilda in San Miguel – leaps into the present with a venue that provides a large deck around a cutting-edge infinity pool, a DJ playing today’s hottest music, a state-of-the-art mixologist pouring the latest cocktails, and innovative food being served that taps the latest culinary trends.
Hotel Matilda is the perfect location for an intimate and private wedding event. Offering just 32 luxuriously appointed rooms for you and your guests, Hotel Matilda closes its doors to other guests allowing you full run of the hotel to arrange not only your wedding, but also other special events such as a rehearsal dinner, bridesmaids luncheon, and groomsmen dinner. It’s just one more way that Hotel Matilda goes the extra mile to ensure that your wedding experience is perfect and memorable in every way possible.
