Reasons to get married in New Mexico
New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment, has so much to offer – wide open spaces, stunning vistas and color schemes, and the warmth of its people (and its wonderfully spicy food). And then there is the art and culture, too. Between Albuquerque and Santa Fe and the pueblos nearby, I found great inspiration for wedding celebrations. And to top it off, New Mexico is easy to get to and a couple can get the flavor of old Mexico and Spain, mixed with Native American influences, without having to leave the country.
What’s a celebration without great food? You can find so much of it in Santa Fe. Wonderful, creative, local flavors prepared by world class chefs in inviting adobe style spaces that make you feel like you are in someone’s home. Aqua Santa, with its charming outdoor patio, is the perfect setting for a rehearsal dinner or a small wedding celebration. Half of the inside space is a fully exposed kitchen. Every detail is executed to perfection, just the way you would want your guests treated.
At Maria’s, we change things up with less gourmet and more simple southwest-style Mexican food. The sopapillas are the lightest, crispy treats you’ve ever tasted – their only weakness is that you have to wait until the end of the meal to dig into them. Don’t forget the Margaritas – a selection of tequilas and combination of ingredients that goes on for miles, a perfect accent for a celebratory lunch or dinner.
The vibrant colors and flavors, mix of old and new and vast landscapes make these New Mexico destinations more than just beautiful – they’re full of spirituality and soul.
My Favorite Properties
Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa ~ Pueblo Santa Ana
A few miles from the main highway, the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa emerges suddenly, as if rising up from the earth itself – complimented by surrounding cottonwoods, set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains. Regardless of the temperature outside, everything about the Hyatt Regency Tamaya is warm. It starts with the warmth of the kiva fireplace right outside the entrance and continues with the broad smiles of the staff that welcome and greet guests. The cozy lobby feels like a living room, despite its expanse. The banquet facility is beautifully appointed in modern New Mexican décor so full of natural beauty that pours in through the large doorways and windows. The rooms offer every bit of state of the art capability and the flexibility to create intimate spaces or large-scale events. A jewel of New Mexico, Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa is a “quiet and special place” and a unique setting for weddings and celebrations. It’s a destination where you can relax and celebrate with friends and family, and also escape to become one with nature.
With its award-winning Tamaya Mist Spa, Twin Warriors Championship Golf Club with the nationally ranked Gary Panks-designed course, horse-back riding and hot air ballooning, you’ll never be at a loss for things to do. Executive Chef Cheryl Scantlebury infuses locally grown and produced products and flavors into her cuisine, using herbs planted at the Resort in honor of Earth Day. The possibilities for wedding ceremonies and receptions are endless; secluded private picnics, candle lit dinners, even the arrival of the bride and groom in a hot air balloon, which is conveniently located on the resort property.
